Criminal tracking dashboard used by Tom Cruise in Minority Report

Filed under: Dashboard Screenshots — dashboardspy @ 10:54 pm

Speaking of real-life, physical executive dashboards and scorecards, there’s, of course, the famous “floating interface” used by Tom Cruise in Minority Report. He uses a glove contol to whiz through various dashboards to track down crimes that will occur in the future. Below is a scene from this must-see movie. The gorgeous painting below is by artist Dale Rutter. For a funny cartoon that points out that cool interfaces don’t mean productive work sessions, please see this strip from movie-comics.com. If you haven’t seen this movie, order it here. And if you are really into the idea of this type of interface, see the real-life version of it that they have at NYU. Play the movie on the right panel to see the latest in multi-touch interaction research.

So what or who is The Dashboard Spy? As his about page states, The Dashboard Spy is just a guy interested in the design of business dashboards. He could not find any executive dashboard design source books and so set about creating his own. Finally convinced to post his extensive collection of dashboard screenshots online, he was amazed to find how popular it has become. If you have a nice screenshot to share, please send an email to info _at_ dashboardspy.com. Also check out The Dashboard Spy’s favorite books.
