Metrics scorecard delivered via powerpoint

Filed under: Dashboard Screenshots — dashboardspy @ 7:29 pm

Have to protect the Dashboard Spy who sent me this screenshot of a dashboard / balanced scorecard, but I will say that it is a critical measure of success at one of the world’s biggest companies. Each month, the dashboard is created in excel and delivered via powerpoint.

So what or who is The Dashboard Spy? As his about page states, The Dashboard Spy is just a guy interested in the design of business dashboards. He could not find any executive dashboard design source books and so set about creating his own. Finally convinced to post his extensive collection of dashboard screenshots online, he was amazed to find how popular it has become. If you have a nice screenshot to share, please send an email to info _at_ dashboardspy.com. Also check out The Dashboard Spy’s favorite books.

Dashboard Development Life Cycle – a flex-based business dashboard

Filed under: Dashboard Screenshots — dashboardspy @ 4:54 am

The implementation of a dashboard is challenging to say the least. At this Macromedia source, http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/flex/articles/cycle.html, we find the WhittmanHart case study. This flash-based demo is located at http://www.macromedia.com//devnet/flex/articles/cycle/whitmanhart.html. It’s very slick, but what is of most value, however, is the explaination of the team structure and development life cycle. The 9 page article is well worth studying.

This first view shows At-a-glance revenue summaries, trends for the quarter and pipeline pie chart.

This next view analyzes planned, booked and forecasted numbers. The actual demo has movement and interactivity.

Heat maps – an eye tracking data visualization technique

Filed under: Dashboard Screenshots — dashboardspy @ 3:39 am

In the quest to build the perfect dashboard or scorecard, we are always looking to present the most important data in the most visible location. This is a fascinating area of study which includes usability testing and even eye tracking technology. The savvy folks at MarketingSherpa.com have published full-color "heatmaps" of viewer reading & click patterns from a study on "How to Copywrite and Position Your Google Ads for Better ROI". Go to http://www.sherpastore.com/Google-eye-tracking.html?8928 to see details on their "Google Eye Tracking Study: How See & Click on Google Search Results".

It's also profiled by the famous Dave Taylor at http://www.askdavetaylor.com/whats_a_google_web_page_heat_map.html.
