A Staffing Dashboard – Xcelsius calculator for HR staffing levels

Filed under: Dashboard Screenshots — dashboardspy @ 3:15 pm

Who said that dashboards can't be folksy and fun? Here is an Xcelsius calculator for fine tuning the staffing level of a department. In this example at datapigtechnologies.com, we see how the number of adjunct professors can be calculated by the user adjusting various inputs. There is a knob control for the student to teacher ratio. There are sliders for growth projections. This is an interactive flash demo, so try it here.

So what or who is The Dashboard Spy? As his about page states, The Dashboard Spy is just a guy interested in the design of enterprise dashboards. He could not find any executive dashboard design source books (or even screenshots of real business dashboards) and so set about creating his own. Finally convinced to post his extensive collection of dashboard screenshots online, he was amazed to find how popular it has become. If you have a nice screenshot of a digital dashboard, balanced scorecard, or any business intelligence graphic to share, please send an email to info _at_ dashboardspy.com. Small Business Accounting Dashboard – Screenshot of MS Office SBA 2006

Here's a screenshot from the Microsoft Office product – Small Business Accounting 2006. As described, "Small Business Accounting has a dashboard for viewing the overall status of the business. Reports for the dashboard include: alerts and reminders, cash-flow graph, vendors to pay, spotlights, overdue customer accounts list, and a bank account summary. The product also has five different "roles" that can be configured to control access to information throughout the system."

Note the Outlook feel to this business dashboard. It is indeed integrated with Outlook and can pull contact information right into the dashboard.

An Executive Console – KPI Dashboard Screenshots showing Financials, Sales, Production, IT System

More fine work here from the BrightPoint Consulting team (brightpointinc.com). This enterprise dashboard is done in Crystal Xcelsius and the interactive flash-based demo can be tried at http://www.xcelsius.com/Examples/swfs/Executive_Dashboard.swf. The screenshots below show that the application focuses on showing 4 views to the business executive – Financial summaries, Sales figures, Production statistics and IT Systems performance indicators. Each area is distilled into an "Index" (i.e. Financial Index, Sales Index, Production Index and IT Systems Index) that provides an At-a-Glance summary that is in view on every page (as well as acts as navigation).

These first 2 enterprise dashboard screenshots show how you can toggle between graphic views and data table views. Indicators include YTD Profit, Stock Price, Cash on Hand, Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Credit and Budget:
