The Scobleizer Dashboard – Scoble is using an MS Sharepoint Dashboard for The Scoble Meter

SharePoint Dashboard Update: This Dashboard Spy post has remained popular long past the April Fool’s Day on which it first appeared, so let me just state up front that this Robert Scoble SharePoint Dashboard does NOT actually exist. It is now a quaint reminder of those days when Scoble was the big evangelist for Microsoft. If you are looking for examples of SharePoint dashboards, you can find them on this blog on SharePoint Dashboard examples. You’ll also find a link to a great Sharepoint live demo.

Also, for those of you starting to look at MicroSoft Sharepoint, whether for collaboration or enterprise dashboards, begin with a look at the Microsoft SharePoint 2007 For Dummies book.  Don’t feel embarrassed to be labeled a sharepoint “dummy” – this resource is an excellent introduction to Microsoft Sharepoint for us executive dashboard people.

Thanks to a Dashboard Spy inside the Scoble encampment, we have this peek at the executive dashboard that Robert Scoble, famed blogger at microsoft, uses. This screenshot was grabbed from Scoble’s screen and smuggled out to us last night. It’s worth a look to see the kinds of metrics that he is tracking. Lots of gauges, scales, graphs and such. Perhaps too much? It also seems like he can use the dashboard to actually post to his blog and then monitor the buzz it creates. I’m told by a dashboard coding expert that the technology behind this enterprise dashboard is Microsoft Sharepoint Portal. There is heavy customization of the webparts. As you know, there has been some controversy about Robert Scoble and his posts lately. I think that he’s done some great work and wish him the best.

Read Robert Scoble’s book on blogging, Naked Conversations : How Blogs are Changing the Way Businesses Talk with Customers . Also, there are tons of other blogging books.

So what or who is The Dashboard Spy? As his about page states, The Dashboard Spy is just a guy interested in the design of enterprise dashboards. He could not find any executive dashboard design source books (or even screenshots of real business dashboards) and so set about creating his own. Finally convinced to post his extensive collection of dashboard screenshots online, he was amazed to find how popular it has become. If you have a nice screenshot of a digital dashboard, balanced scorecard, or any business intelligence graphic to share, please send an email to info _at_ Also check out The Dashboard Spy’s favorite books.
